Okay, i gotta say that this book is a little weird.
It’s about this boy Jacob and his grandfather Abe always told him of these stories during WWII of him and a group of children who lived on this island to escape from monsters. Abe had an album of really strange pictures; a girl floating in mid air, a lady holding an umbrella, a little girl who looked like she was 40, etc. They were very peculiar. The tales Abe told Jacob were that they had to hide from these monsters that would want to kill children like them.
Something happened (you’ll find out if you read it) and Abe left the island to go fight in the war and then moved to America, leaving the little island in Wales (i think that’s where it was) and started a family. As Abe grew older he became crazy, muttering about seeing monsters, he even had a closet filled with guns and artillery.
One day when Jacob was going to check on his crazy grandfather he discovers him dead, holding a letter opener as defense against whatever he was about to face. Jacob finds him in the woods and when he looks up he sees this monster and he couldn’t get it out of his head. Authorities and his parents all told him that a pack of dogs must have killed him, but Jacob thought that was crazy.
As they were going through his grandfathers stuff his aunt gives him a book with a letter in it from his grandfather telling him to find the island and there was a postcard of the old lady asking him to come home to the others.
After speaking with his psychiatrist, Jacob and his dad head off to the island for three weeks. Once they arrive to the island Jacob goes exploring and finds himself in the 1940’s in a time loop, where the same day is happening over and over. He also notices that the children in this time loop looked exactly the same when he saw the pictures.
What will happen once he discovers this? Will he stay with his new found friends, or go back home with his father? Read this and find out.
